Aldi joins Tony’s Open Chain

 

Tony’s Open Chain welcomes the first discount retailer as a mission ally!

Tony’s Open Chain is going global: the second mission ally to join the Open Chain is German discount retailer ALDI. More mission allies means more cocoa beans, which in turn means more impact. Because only together can we make chocolate 100% slave free.

ALDI has joined Tony’s Open Chain and developed a chocolate bar range that sources beans using Tony’s 5 Sourcing Principles to take direct responsibility for their supply chain and ending exploitation and poverty at the root of chocolate’s bitter truth.

The new chocolate bar will be released in spring 2021 in selected ALDI markets. Buying the new chocolate bar will support the cocoa farming communities in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana where the cocoa beans are sourced from.

To end modern slavery and illegal child labour in the chocolate industry, change needs to happen on a big scale. Only when all chocolate-making companies work together, we can make all chocolate 100% slave free. This is why Tony’s Open Chain is newly upgraded to get more companies on board the mission – the initiative is now ready to scale!
