Partner Cooperatives

Partner cooperatives are integral mission partners for Tony's Open Chain as they are the implementers of Tony's Sourcing Principles. They are strengthened to deliver direct, positive impact for cocoa farmers. This includes areas such as providing the support to improve farm practices that enhance climate resilience, providing access to seedlings to invest in crop health, and support in child labour prevention and remediation solutions.

A partner cooperative is a collaborative organization of cocoa farmers that is democratically controlled, owned and jointly run by its members to combine resources for mutual benefit.

Data ownership and programme management sits with our partner cooperatives for better decision making and local empowerment.

Ongoing collaboration ensures Tony's Open Chain and the partner cooperatives can collectively tackle challenges and openly share both successes and failures.

Tony's Open Chain cooperative strategy

The Tony’s Open Chain model is anchored in a cooperative-centric approach. Our partner cooperatives, owned and run by cocoa farmers, are key to ensuring safe cocoa farming that supports farmer livelihoods and does not harm the environment. They serve as a crucial and direct link between cocoa farmers and Tony’s Open Chain. Partner cooperatives play a critical role in supporting farmer members on their behalf. We are proud to support our partner cooperatives’ strengthbuilding as they own the implementation of our 5 Sourcing Principles, which are ingrained in their business practices.
